About the Procedure

Deviated Septum Correction (Septoplasty)

A deviated septum occurs when the wall separating the two nasal passages is displaced or crooked, which can make breathing through the nose difficult. It may also contribute to nasal blockage, recurrent sinus problems, snoring, or other nasal symptoms.

Dr. Prakhar Kumar provides detailed ENT evaluation to assess the severity of septal deviation and its effect on nasal breathing. Septoplasty is a surgical procedure used to straighten the nasal septum and improve airflow when symptoms are significant and medical treatment is not sufficient. Book a consultation.

When It's Recommended

Conditions

Septoplasty may be considered when a deviated septum causes persistent nasal obstruction or contributes to other nasal and sinus problems.

  • Deviated nasal septum
  • Persistent nasal blockage due to septal deviation
  • Difficulty breathing through the nose
  • Recurrent sinus problems associated with nasal obstruction
  • Difficulty breathing through one side of the nose
  • Septal deviation following nasal injury
  • Structural narrowing of the nasal passage
  • Selected cases of chronic nasal obstruction
Warning Signs

Symptoms

Symptoms depend on the degree and location of the septal deviation and may affect one or both nasal passages.

  • Persistent nasal blockage
  • Difficulty breathing through the nose
  • Blocked sensation on one side of the nose
  • Frequent nasal congestion
  • Recurrent sinus symptoms
  • Nosebleeds or nasal dryness
  • Snoring or disturbed sleep
  • Facial pressure or discomfort in selected cases
Understanding the Problem

Causes

A deviated septum may develop naturally or result from an injury or other changes affecting the nasal structure.

  • Natural variation in nasal development
  • Nasal injury or trauma
  • Previous nasal fracture
  • Changes during growth and development
  • Previous nasal surgery
  • Structural abnormalities of the nasal septum
Our Approach

Treatment

Treatment depends on the severity of symptoms and the degree of nasal obstruction. Mild symptoms may be managed medically, while persistent structural blockage may require septoplasty.

  • Detailed ENT consultation and nasal examination
  • Assessment of nasal airflow and obstruction
  • Diagnostic nasal endoscopy when required
  • Medical treatment for associated nasal inflammation
  • Management of associated nasal allergies or sinus conditions
  • Surgical correction of the deviated septum when indicated
  • Septoplasty to improve the nasal airway
  • Postoperative care and follow-up
Why Septoplasty

Benefits

Correcting a significantly deviated septum can improve nasal airflow and help manage symptoms caused by structural nasal obstruction.

  • Improves nasal airflow
  • Helps relieve persistent nasal blockage
  • May improve breathing through the nose
  • May reduce symptoms associated with nasal obstruction
  • Can support better sleep and breathing comfort
  • May help improve access for selected sinus treatments
  • Addresses the underlying structural problem
  • Provides long-term correction of symptomatic septal deviation
Protect Your Nasal Health

Prevention

Not all cases of deviated septum can be prevented, but protecting the nose from injury and maintaining good nasal health can help reduce related problems.

  • Protect the nose from sports-related injuries
  • Use appropriate protective equipment during contact sports
  • Avoid inserting objects into the nose
  • Manage nasal allergies and inflammation appropriately
  • Treat persistent nasal congestion promptly
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to nasal irritants
  • Seek ENT evaluation for persistent breathing difficulty
  • Follow postoperative nasal-care instructions after septoplasty
